The Kaltura Video Platform is a robust tool for managing, distributing, and monetizing multimedia content, allowing users to upload videos, audio files, and other media assets to a centralized repository. Sharing and embedding media in Kaltura enables seamless distribution across various channels, such as websites, social media, or learning management systems, while maintaining control over access and playback. Prerequisites An active Kaltura account with login credentials. Administrative or publisher-level permissions to access and modify media entries. Media files (videos, audio, or other assets) are already uploaded and processed in your Kaltura MediaSpace or Management Console. Familiarity with basic Kaltura navigation; if needed, review the platform's official documentation for account setup. A compatible web browser and internet connection for accessing the platform. Embedding Media Embedding media integrates Kaltura content directly into external websites or applications, providing a more immersive viewing experience compared to simple links. Follow these steps to embed your media: Step 1 : Log in to your Kaltura account and access your MediaSpace or Management Console. Step 2 : Select the desired media entry from your library, click on the 3-dot button at the end of the entry, then click on the “ Share & Embed ” option. Step 3 : A new embed window will open on the right-hand side. Click on the “ Advanced Settings ” dropdown at he bottom of the window. Step 4 : Select the appropriate embed type, and toggle on include Search Engine Optimization Data, support for HTTPS Embed Code, or Responsiveness. Step 5 : A new embed window will open on the right-hand side. Click on the “ Copy ” option below the Embed Code. Step 6 : Test the playback on your site to ensure compatibility across devices and browsers. Sharing Media Sharing media in Kaltura allows you to distribute content via direct links, which can be customized for privacy and access controls. Follow these steps to share your media: Step 1 : Open the HTML editor of your website’s page and paste the code where you want the video to appear. Step 2 : Save or update the page. When viewers visit the page, the Kaltura video will be displayed in the location you specified. Advanced Options and Best Practices For more control, Kaltura supports advanced sharing and embedding features like playlists, which allow bundling multiple media items into a single embeddable player. Follow these steps to implement advanced options and best practices: Step 1 : Enable features such as captions, watermarks, or interactive elements in the media entry settings to enhance accessibility and engagement. Step 2 : Create playlists by grouping multiple media items in the Management Console and generating a single embeddable player for them. Step 3 : Prioritize security by using HTTPS protocols and opting for authenticated access through single sign-on (SSO) integrations instead of public embeds for sensitive content. Step 4 : Regularly update media metadata, including titles and descriptions, to improve searchability and SEO performance. Step 5 : Monitor usage through Kaltura's analytics tools to refine your distribution strategy. Step 6 : Ensure compliance with copyright laws when embedding third-party content, and avoid unauthorized distribution. Troubleshooting Common Issues If you encounter problems during sharing or embedding, such as broken links or playback errors, first verify that the media has finished processing in Kaltura, as incomplete uploads can cause issues. Follow these steps to troubleshoot common issues: Step 1 : Confirm that the media entry has completed processing by checking its status in the Management Console. Step 2 : For embedding issues, inspect your browser's console for JavaScript errors and ensure your website's content security policy (CSP) allows Kaltura's domains. Step 3 : Review sharing settings to verify that permissions, such as access levels or expiration dates, are correctly configured for any access-related problems. Step 4 : Clear your browser cache and try accessing the link or embedding it in an incognito window to rule out caching issues. Step 5 : You need to test the media as well on different devices and browsers to identify compatibility problems. If issues persist, consult Kaltura's support resources, community forums, or contact technical support for platform-specific guidance. This proactive approach helps maintain smooth operations and ensures your media remains accessible to intended audiences.
